Updated: KCHS Bomb Threat
At the end of the school day Monday, Dec. 6, Kent County High School administrators were alerted of a potential bomb threat at the school.
The Kent County Sheriff’s Office took the lead in this situation and has been working hand-in-hand with Kent County Public Schools.
The Sheriff's Office with coordination from the Maryland State Police and the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office arrived at KCHS after the threat was reported Dec. 6 with five dogs to investigate the bomb threat.
The dogs thoroughly searched the exterior and interior of the building. Nothing was found on the premises. The search concluded at about 8:30 p.m.
On Tuesday morning, Dec. 7, police brought dogs again to KCHS during staff members’ and students’ arrival at school. Everyone entering the building was diverted to the two main entrances, with bomb dogs present to conduct a safety check. Police reported that nothing was found.
An additional police presence will continue throughout the morning at KCHS to ensure everyone’s safety.
This investigation is still ongoing.
It is important for students to understand that false threats are a serious law enforcement matter.
Kent County Public Schools will continue to keep parents and the community updated as needed.
